What We Do

The purpose of the Newburgh Girl Power Program is to provide adolescent girls ages nine to twelve years of age with the opportunity to participate in a dynamic youth experience through self-exploration, positive mentoring, support and the building of leadership skills by using a linguistically and culturally competent approach. The program aspires to produce confident young active community members by “growing the leader within.” Newburgh Girl Power has existed since November 1st, 2012. Programming runs year-round meeting once a week for approximately three hours. Throughout the summer months the girls will take part in monthly, fun, cultural and educational field trips exposing them to opportunities they normally are not afforded. Utilizing the curriculum Girls Circle, a strength-based support group model that addresses the unique needs of girls ages 9–18 by integrating relational–cultural theory (RCT), resiliency practices, and skills training into a specific format designed to increase positive connection, personal and collective strengths, and competence in girls, the Newburgh Girl Power Program will provide a dynamic youth experience in a linguistically and culturally competent approach.
